Last Monday, March 13, 2013, Darren Sharper was brought before the felony arraignment court again in downtown Los Angeles where his attorneys unsuccessfully argued for him to be released on bail pending additional charges being filed against him in Arizona and other jurisdictions.

Mr. Sharper has been in custody in Los Angeles since February 27 2014, when he turned himself in upon learning there was an arrest warrant that had been issued from out of state—Louisiana in connection with similar type of sexual assault charges.

Despite this show of good faith, and the fact that Mr. Sharper had previously been released on bail, and successfully out on bail, in Los Angeles, Judge Korn ordered him to be detained. He was previously out on 1 million dollars bail stemming from allegations that he drugged and raped two separate women in Los Angeles County. The new Arizona indictment that was filed provided the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office with an opportunity to ask for him to be held without bail.

Mr. Sharper certainly has a tough road in front of him being forced to confront sexual assault charges in Arizona, California, Louisiana, Nevada and Florida, likely with separate alleged victims. Of course, with Mr. Sharper’s notoriety as an ex-NFL star, he certainly appears to be an easy and obvious target for false accusations of this nature.
