Mexican Mafia Member Rudy "Crazy" Espudo plead guilty to a superseding indictment charging him with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and brandishing a firearm in relation to a drug-trafficking crime. "Crazy" was the leader of a criminal enterprise engaged in drug trafficking, extortion, and robbery, operating out of North County San Diego.

According to the documents filed by the United States Attorneys Office, "Crazy" would collect tax payments from local gang members and drug dealers in exchange for protection by the Mexican Mafia. "Crazy" is scheduled to be sentenced on October 7, 2013, and faces a maximum of life in prison.
